Finn is my 4-year-old tuxedo cat who has been part of my family since he was just a kitten. He was rescued after being abandoned outside, and despite his rough beginning, he grew into the sweetest, most loving boy. Until now, Finn has always been healthy. This is the first time in his six years that he has ever been seriously sick.
Recently, Finn became ill with what is believed to be calcivirus. He has been receiving veterinary care and treatment while we have done everything possible to help him recover.
Unfortunately, on August 10th, we received devastating news. Finn is now anemic, and his body is not replenishing his red blood cells enough on its own. His blood levels have fallen to the point that he needs a blood transfusion to give him a chance to survive.
This news has been especially heartbreaking because less than a month ago, I lost my cat BonBon after she also needed a blood transfusion that I simply could not afford. Having to face almost the exact same situation again so soon is something I never imagined. I am still grieving her loss, and I cannot bear the thought of losing Finn without doing everything I possibly can to give him a chance.
There is an emergency veterinary hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, willing to try to save Finn or even as far as Raleigh/Durham. Once enough funds have been raised, I can take him there for emergency care, where he can receive the blood transfusion and additional treatment he desperately needs. The transfusion could give his body the support and time it needs while the veterinary team works to determine why he is not maintaining his red blood cells and whether his body can begin recovering.
Unfortunately, the cost of a blood transfusion, emergency hospitalization, testing, medications, and continued veterinary care is more than I can manage on my own, especially after everything that has already gone into caring for my cats during the past several weeks.
Finn was given a second chance at life when he was rescued after being abandoned as a kitten. Six years later, I am asking for help giving him another one.
I could not save BonBon when she needed a transfusion, and I desperately do not want finances to make that decision for Finn too. Every donation will go toward getting Finn to Charlotte and covering his blood transfusion, hospitalization, testing, medications, and continued treatment.
