About Our mom, Sheila

Our mother, Sheila, spent her time dedicated to federal government service — showing up every day with a smile, advancing through hard work, and retiring with pride. Along the way, she fought and won two battles with breast cancer. She is the kind of woman who spoke her mind with love, helped others without being asked, and never missed a Sunday in church. She poured herself into everyone around her — her children, her family, her friends, and even strangers.

When Alzheimer’s Came

At some point, Sheila began to notice something was wrong. True to her nature, she didn’t ask for help — she didn’t want to be a burden. So she carried it alone, in silence, for far too long. Without any of us knowing, Alzheimer’s quietly unraveled her world. She moved her belongings into a storage unit. Payments lapsed. She lost possessions she had worked her whole life to earn. Her truck was sold in another state. We believe she was taken advantage of during an incredibly vulnerable moment.

Then our mother went missing. For three months, we didn’t know where she was. A police report was filed. Missing person flyers went up. We searched and prayed without stopping. When she was finally found and admitted to the hospital, doctors told us she was at Stage 5–6. The disease had progressed far while she was alone and unprotected.

Today, Sheila is under our care and surrounded by love. But the Alzheimer’s continues to advance. Things she once did with ease — cooking, cleaning, caring for herself, walking without assistance — she can no longer do on her own. Her vision has faded. The conversations we once had are slipping away, quietly, one day at a time. But her spirit? Still there. Still Sheila.

Why We Are Asking for Help

We are her children, and we are doing everything we can to ensure the woman who gave us so much is honored with the dignity she deserves. We have met with a funeral home and received an estimate of $11,855 for funeral and burial services, plus $4,500 for a headstone — a total of $16,355.

We are not ashamed to ask for help. Our mother spent her whole life helping others. Now it is her turn to receive. Every dollar, every share, and every prayer means the world to our family.

If you knew Sheila, you know exactly why we are fighting for her. If you are just meeting her through these words — welcome. She would have already found a way to help you too.

With Love and Gratitude, we thank you in advance for you help.
