Hi, I’m Kara, I’m 33 years old, and I live in MS. I have an extensive cardiac history. I suffered from cardiac arrest and an anoxic brain injury in 2016 at age 26. I was in a coma for several days and was not expected to live. If I happened to, drs said that I’d just be a  vegetable in a nursing home for life. Fast forward to February 2022, I took a genetic test and it came back positive for long qt syndrome type 2. I suffered another cardiac arrest 6 months later in august of last year and left the hospital with a defibrillator this time. Since getting my device, I’ve had a total of 24 episodes in the past 4.5 months, including defibrillations and anti tachycardia pacing. (Not counting non sustained/untreated episodes) I keep having recurrent episodes of ventricular tachycardia, that are degenerating into ventricular fibrillation, which is the most lethal heart rhythm. My drs have exhausted all medications/other interventions including catheter ablations and different medications etc. My electrophysiologist based in Jackson has referred me to Texas heart institute to discuss further treatment options. Unfortunately, as I suspected, they do not accept my insurance, so self pay would be the only option. I’m estimating that the entire cost of the trip, including airfare, hotel, visit fee, and testing fees, will be around $1500, including food and transportation to/from the airport. My situation isn’t as dire as some folks, but I’m tired of being defibrillated, and Texas heart is a leading hospital in cardiac medicine and the dr I was referred to is the director of tx heart. Any small amount would be greatly appreciated and will go directly towards all of my medical expenses.
