For decades, Laura Hernández has been a pillar of the community — a visionary leader whose exemplary model of rehabilitation and personal growth, tireless service to her community, and fearless advocacy for immigrants rights and criminal justice has improved the lives of countless others.
Now, it’s our turn to support Laura. Despite Laura’s status as a legal permanent resident who’s been in the U.S. for over 40 years, she’s at risk of deportation today due to a prior conviction from two decades ago. Deportation would needlessly and cruelly separate Laura from her family, husband, and children, her friends, and the only place she’s called home for her entire life. It would also be a loss for California, as Laura is intensely devoted to public service, immigrants' rights, and advocating for those impacted by incarceration.
