I want to first start by saying there is no pressure to donate, sharing helps too! I did not originally want to utilize a platform that had a “goal” because I already don’t like to ask for help and honestly I don’t have a goal. Setting a financial goal made me uncomfortable and my original thought was to create a dedicated venmo, something less formal, but at the same time I want to be transparent, provide visible updates, etc. I chose this number to act as a safety net as her costs continue rise while my salary stays the same, as I’m sure many of you understand. The purpose of this is purely, if are able and would like to help our family.

In October 2023 Susanna was diagnosed with diabetes. You may be saying to yourself, “I didn’t know dogs could have diabetes” and neither did we. The human equivalent is T1 which means she is insulin dependent and there is no cure.
Now, we’re completely aware that she is our dog, therefore our responsibility and we’re not asking for anyone to pay entirely for her care; we are and will continue to pay out of pocket, but if you can donate (or share) it would be incredibly helpful.
She’s had diabetes for almost a year, why are we asking for help now?
To be transparent, her monthly care is roughly $350 and continuing to rise due to the disease progressing. We are seeking assistance with ensuring we can keep her with us as long as we can; hopefully through 10/25 so she can be part of our wedding.
Previously we were measuring her blood sugar with a continuous glucose monitor, just like what is used for humans! Now we have to move into to a manual system which requires test strips ($55) more regularly than a one time monitor, every few months.
As I mentioned, this is incurable so all we can do is treat the symptoms to keep her stable and cozy. One of the biggest, most recent changes is that she requires a prescription food, coming in at $125 per bag. (This lasts about a month). This is necessary to assist in controlling her glucose numbers and preventing UTIs (which she has been struggling with, requiring further testing, etc. etc.) and other complications.
Because the disease will continue, so will her need for more insulin which is $60/vial and with her current dose, one vial lasts us two weeks. The syringes to administer (2x daily) being about $30/month
(Again, I’m only listing these things to be entirely transparent)
Anyone who is in a position to donate will receive a token of Susie’s (and our) appreciation, like a Polaroid of her cute face or maybe even her artwork! I’ll also continue sharing her updates here as well as on her Instagram (@toosweetsusie) to document her progress and smiles.

Thank you for taking the time to read Susanna’s story, she is my best friend and while I never would have expected this when rescuing her, I am so thankful to have the ability to take care of her thus far.
