Ma’s Missions:
A Community Warm Meal & Blessing Initiative
Hello! I’m Megan Cheek, and I’m reaching out from Kosciusko, Mississippi.
I’m asking the community to come together to help provide warm meals to those in need. I want it to feel like you came home after being gone a long time and your mom took the time to prepare your favorite meal for you...I want every child in this city to feel that type of care ..I want every adult to feel like they’ve got a community backpack full of resources at their disposal..and an army behind them.
This initiative is not tied to any specific religion or denomination; it’s simply about coming together as a community and supporting one another because we all agree that God is Love..and taking care of our people is an act of Love..
This initiative is also in no way affiliated with the blessing boxes or blessing pantries that are in Kosciusko currently..we used those as a drop off short term.. but we are making other arrangements to pass out food directly at Jason Niles Park until a kitchen becomes available.
The funds raised will help cover the costs of food, ingredients, supplies, and future expansions, such as:
•a soup kitchen…but, one that feels just like your in town visiting family that loves you….and they’ve worked to prepare a meal specifically for you..in a home, at a table, with your people..I don’t want white institutionalized floors and hard metal chairs..I want your heirloom chairs from your great grandmas… I want your table that your grandad built …I want to gather around those..
•blessing clothing store…it would provide free clothing for children, ensuring they have nice clothes without any stigma…shopping would be by appointment only to protect privacy.. clothing would be donated by members of the community..we want to dress the kids as well as we would dress our own.. no less.. people could donate clothes they would otherwise sell or take to a secondhand shop..these are just a couple of the ideas..but kids would receive 3 to 5 outfits or whatever they needed at that point.
I’ve been a federal employee for 22 years this past September..I am an excepted employee and this initiative is keeping me grounded and grateful during this time.
I’ll update this a bit as needed… But, I want to keep the money separate from my stuff right off the bat… So, I like the idea of putting it here so that I can move forward with this initiative and other blessing ideas…l want y’all to be able to see your money & I ain’t trying to start a business..I opened a new bank account today to link to this so that everything is separate and there is a clear paper trail.
