On New Year’s Day, Katie Sullivan’s medical nightmare began.  After dealing with some back pain, Katie woke up sick that morning and her family took her to the hospital where it was discovered that she was septic due to a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) that had created three abscesses in her kidney, liver and back muscle.  On January 2nd, Katie was life flighted at 2 am to Allegheny General Hospital where she has remained in the Medical Intensive Care Unit in Pittsburgh.  Her condition dramatically declined and she had to be placed on a mechanical ventilator to help her breath and dialysis for her failing kidneys.  Katie remained stable but the afternoon of January 6th her doctors found Katie had sustained a toxic brain injury with small areas of bleeding in her brain with seizure activity.  The family was given a poor prognosis for survival because of her deterioration in her neurological status and family and friends were called to come and see Katie for possibly the last time.  It was also when we began vigilantly praying for our miracle and the call for prayer warriors went out.  Hour by hour we watched Katie’s condition show signs of improvement and still we prayed harder.  We demanded our miracle!

Today we finally got the news we were waiting for.  Katie has woken up and is answering questions, moving all her extremities, and squeezing an hand and wiggling toes like they ask her too.

She is not out of the woods yet. They also just discovered that she has an hole in her heart that is assumed to be a birth defect that was never discovered before.  Katie’s road to full recovery is going to be long but we are ready to travel that road with her  and ask for continued prayers.

Unfortunately, the Sullivan’s found out today that the Hospital stay and all of Katie’s current medical care is considered out of their insurance’s network coverage which will largely increase their financial burden of the medical expenses.  This account is being established to raise funds to pay for Katie’s medical expenses.  Please continue to pray for Katie  #katiesfight
