Hey everybody !! This is my baby boy, R.C. and I am asking for help getting him a rectal prolapse surgery so he can live life comfortably again! I thank everyone in advanced for even just a share if you cant donate :)

So 2.5 years ago my friend asked me if I wanted a kitten that they found in a parking lot with no tail. I knew he would need vet work, and nobody else could take him and I didnt want him sitting in a shelter where nobody would want him with a huge scab on his bum. I took him im and immediately took him to the vet. Many, many vet appointments and x rays later, they concluded he would need a rectal prolapse surgery. Total was $3000

I ended up getting the surgery because at this point it was about a year later and his bum had started to come out more and more and it was literally an open wound and he would leave blood spots everywhere he sat. He LOVES cuddling and laying with me on my bed and it would break my heart to push him away so I honestly let him lie with me, but it was quite a chore to rewash my blankets every day. Anyways fast forward, I get him the surgery which completely broke my bank, I actually had to ask my mom for some help as well with money and she luckily came through.

I was able to pay for the surgery with her help and it was successful…. For the time being. They put him to sleep for the surgery and I picked him up a couple hours later and it was back inside, and his bum had several stitches. He had a cone and the vet gave me some stool softener that was good for about 2 weeks or so, post surgery. He was doing good at first but then, he kept managing to get the cone off (thats a cat for you smh) He managed to get it off when I was asleep and he ended up chewing at some of the stitches (the vet never said anything about coming to get the stitches removed so I assume they were supposed to be dissolvable.) Mind you, this was several weeks after the surgery and his bum seemed to be fine despite the fact he tore stitches out.

I gave him laxatives (vet had recommended earlier on) because he has trouble pushing his poops out. Well for a while he was doing good. About a year just passed since his surgery and all was well. Until unfortunately about a week or so ago, he strained so hard to get a poop out that he ended up popping his butt back out a little. This is the part where I might get hate and honestly Im hating myself for it so I dont blame you. I hadnt been giving him laxatives for the past couple months because honestly I didnt think he needed them anymore. When I would give him too much, he would start having diarrhea. So, I took a break from giving them to him and that break turned into a couple months like I said. He gad been doing perfectly fine and eating and pooping like normal.

Well, it popped back out a little from his strained poop, I panicked and gave him some wet food and laxatives again. It was the weekend so I planned to call the vet again on monday to see if they can maybe push it back in easily. Well, practically over night, it ended up completely popping back out. I am literally devastated. I feel like I completely failed him by pausing his laxatives, but I genuinely felt like he didnt need them anymore and I thought the surgery was a full success. I know for a fact he’s gonna need another surgery because of how far its out. I feel so terrible because like I mentioned, he loves cuddling and is such a mommy’s boy (probably since Ive helped him since he was a kitten) and I dont have the heart to push him away even tho he leaves blood marks everywhere he sits.

Well, I went searching for an answer online and saw a reddit link from about a year ago of someone needing a cat prolapse surgery as well. Someone in the comments recommended they started a gofund me and they ended up raising over $4000.

Honestly the thought of making him a go fund me has crossed my mind, but I did not think there'd be so many compassionate people who cared as much for someone else's cat. With that being said, I am hoping to get him back in for another surgery and this time, I will most likely give him laxatives the rest of his life because I learned my lesson. I would rather have a cat with a runny butt, than one who has an “open wound” on his bum. (Also he is very loving and friendly, but when his bum is out, he gets irritated with my other cat and other people when they gets too close because he doesn’t want them touching it. He doesnt mind getting close to me at all because he trusts me.)

Honestly I am making a goal of $3000 but once I hit $2500 I will be fine covering the rest. But $3000 would be ideal because I know they are most likely going to charge me another $500 or $600 for a pre surgery xray again which is a ridiculous price if you ask me but what do I know. I would honestly be fine just saving my next few checks and put them all towards his surgery but unfortunately I have rent and car insurance and all the other good stuff and obviously if I stop paying rent then I will not have a place for my babies so thats not an option.

Long story short:

•Rescued cat with no tail and scabbed/prolapsed bum

•Prolapse got worse so I paid $3000 for surgery

•A year later I thought it was fine to take him off laxatives because his bum seemed well healed.

•He ended up having a harsh poop and pushed his bum back out

I know this surgery is the only option and I don’t want him having to live with a prolapse forever. I read online somewhere that apparently a lot of cats do end up living with the prolapse. That seems unrealistic because he leaves blood on everything and it is just a big open wound. (He slips out of all his diapers as well)

If you read this far, I just wanna say I greatly appreciate everyone’s support in advanced. I know we are all going through tough times and a tough economy right now. I hope everyone has a blessed day, thank you.
