Joe Biden is an American politician who served as the 47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017.

Biden'sPosition On Key Issues

1. Health Care- Biden plans to protect and keep the Affordable Care Act in place. Instead of starting from scratch and getting rid of private insurance, he has a plan to build on the Affordable Care Act by giving Americans more choice, reducing health care costs, and making our health care system less complex to navigate.

2. Guns-Biden is extremely adamant about gun control with a plan that includes a mission to eradicate gun violence. This plan includes policy changes such as, creating a program to ensure individuals who become prohibited from possessing firearms relinquish their weapons. He is intent on banning the manufacturing and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, along with regulating possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act. He additionally wants to require background checks for all gun sales. His plan includes closing loopholes in the federal background check system such as the hate crime loophole, Charleston loophole, and the fugitive from justice loophole. Additionally, Biden plans to end the online sale of firearms and ammunitions by enacting legislation to prohibit all online sales of firearms, ammunition, kits, and gun parts.

3. Abortion- Biden is pro-choice but his opinion on this issue in the past has been somewhat convoluted. He has publicly changed his opinion on abortion and wants every woman to have the right to choose to have an abortion. Although in the past he had different views, he has recently stated publicly that if elected, he would codify Roe v. Wade. He also says he would require judicial nominees to support Roe as settled law, repeal the Hyde Amendment, require private insurers to cover contraception, repeal the global gag rule, repeal the domestic gag rule, and preserve and protect federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

4. Environment- If elected president, Biden has stated he will lead the world to address the climate emergency and lead through the power of example. He has stated that he will ensure the U.S. achieves a 100% clean energy economy and net-zero emissions no later than 2050. He plans to rally the rest of the world to meet the threat of climate change, and stand up to the abuse of power by polluters who disproportionately harm communities of color and low-income communities. Biden has also committed to not accepting any contributions from oil, gas and coal corporations or executives.

5. Education-If elected president, Biden has stated he will support our educators by giving them the pay and dignity they deserve. He wants to invest in resources for schools so students grow into physically and emotionally healthy adults, and make it easier for educators to focus on teaching.He wants to ensure that no child's future is determined by their zip code, parents, income, race, or disability. He’s stated he wants to provide every middle and high school student a path to a successful career by starting to invest in our children at birth.

6. Immigration- Biden believes that we can secure our borders and enforce our laws without tossing aside our countries values, principles, and our humanity. He believes that we need to address the root causes of migration that push people to leave their homes, and better understand everything these migrants have gone through in their home countries that lead to them to undertake such a dangerous journey here for the chance at a better life. These beliefs are based on the work that Joe Biden previously fought for in the Obama-Biden Administration as Vice President. Biden also believes we must never forget that our country would be nothing without our immigrants and that America was built on the concept of being "The Land of Opportunity." He firmly believes in this sentiment and that we should always embrace the belief that legal immigration is and has been an incredible source of strength for our country.
