Hi…if you are a friend, thank you for taking a few minutes to let me share why I am asking for your support here.
And if you are a new potential friend, welcome to my fundraising efforts and this opportunity to begin learning about this expedition.
Without your help these questions may never get answered.
These are indeed challenging times. Undeniable. And what I am beginning to notice, and what likely you are noticing too is that people…are beginning to look for their people.
Intuitively, and more obviously, we all sense the tension in the world. Many of us are experiencing it, personally - in our neighborhoods, in the media, in our news cycles and just out on the road, at our workplaces, in parking lots where hostility is in the air.
This film project, this story I am chasing is where it’s not like that. There are a few places that are islands of community…who have figured out that in spite of all of these tensions around us, together, they’re thriving.
How did that happen and what are these communities doing that is different and supporting that thriving?
(We have all seen examples of where certain supposed harmonious communities have burned and crashed because of terrible behaviors inflicted on their members by their leadership. But what about where that hasn’t happened?)
The beginning of my search is following up on an invitation to join a group of 20-people from around the world, mostly total strangers, and to gather for almost 6-weeks together in the Galapagos Islands to do a deep dive on building community spontaneously with one another.
It’s called a regenesis incubator for community building. And for a quick moment, let’s unpack that word - regenesis. It’s means going back to the beginning in order to discover something fresh and perhaps re-discover and confirm what the fundamental building blocks are…and in this case, for community building.
And in the mix here is the mythology of the Galapagos Islands themselves as the birthplace of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. We look at life and science COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY now because of this theory of evolution. The goal is to re-think and discover what the fundamental building blocks are of community.
This is an experiment and my contributions as a participant is to document it and to share it, on the other side of this experience.
That’s my commitment to you with your support.
Travel expenses, sharing this story early on with professional social media shares, recording interviews with participants, capturing their stories before they arrive, during the actual incubator experience itself on the galapagos Islands and after this experience all have a cost, hard costs that I need help with.
This is where you come in.
I don’t have the answers yet to what we might unearth and discover during this process. We are leaving soon…the end of October, and we’re all headed to the Galapagos islands.
Your contribution will support the logistics of capturing this story and sharing it with the world. What we discover is a mystery right now but one that has the potential to be invaluable for navigating and finding our people…and thriving together.
How do we do community better?
What are the fundamental building blocks of a thriving community?
Help me and my production team, there are just a few of us, capture this journey and share it with you… and the world.
My gratitude in advance for your contributions. They will make all the difference.
