Mojtaba is a 33-year-old Iranian refugee who has been held in ICE detention for nearly 16 months.
With the help of the American Friends Service Committee, Mojtaba finally won a bond hearing, but the Immigration Court set his bond at $35,000 - an impossible number for a man who has spent every day of his time in the United States in immigration detention.
In Iran, Mojtaba participated in the Women, Life, Freedom movement in 2022-23 - speaking out in support of women’s rights and freedom under the Iranian regime. However, he soon was targeted for his activism by the Iranian government and security forces, who are known for disappearing, torturing, and prosecuting political dissidents like Mojtaba. In 2024, he fled Iran in fear for his life and came to the United States to seek safety and security.
Thanks to the support of generous organizations and individuals, Mojtaba has collected some funds, but is still short $12,500 of his bond amount. Until we raise the remainder, Mojtaba will remain stuck in ICE detention!
Anything you can give to help get Mojtaba out of ICE detention and begin his life in the United States is immensely appreciated!
