AC&R was created to help others.
Starting early this year, we made the decision to dedicate a portion of our proceeds to helping families who have children with disabilities.
This mission is very close to my heart because I have two children with a rare genetic disorder called Joubert Syndrome. This disorder affects the development of the cerebellum, which controls motor function, balance, muscle tone, and cognitive development.
In our case, our children, Ryleigh (5) and Cameron (2), are both affected, and their symptoms present in a very unique way. The way I often explain their symptoms is that they can resemble traits seen in Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Their mobility has been delayed due to low muscle tone. Both struggled early on with tasks such as sitting up and crawling. At 2 years old, Cameron is beginning to sit independently, and at 5 years old, Ryleigh is beginning to stand with assistance.
At one point in our journey, specialists told us that Ryleigh would likely never be able to do many of these things. We truly believe God placed the right people in our lives to help guide them through their journey and progress.
Because of the challenges many families face when trying to access support and resources, I feel a strong responsibility to help raise awareness and give back where we can.
