I am a 41 year-old mother of a beautiful autistic 9 year-old son named Brennan. My husband died suddenly, without any warning, in early 2020. I have been caring for both my son and my ageing father in our apartment since then. Once I was able to begin to recover from my husband’s death, I decided to go back to school at night to learn to become a medical assistant, which is where I have been working recently. Even though I work full time, I barely earn enough to at least pay for my monthly bills as long as something out of the ordinary does not come up. But due to my situation the past year plus, and the fact that I get no assistance from NY state for the special needs of my autistic son, I have fallen very behind in my bills. My son needs things that can be very expensive and I have to choose between what he needs and my electric bill or rent payment  I am not asking for anything for myself. Only to catch up on my bills and to bring some joy to my son this Christmas season.
