Hello All,
I would firstly like to thank everyone for taking time to read our story!
In July of 2021 I went to the shelter to drop off donations, where I was introduced to a sweet 13 month old pittie mix named Oliver, who was surrendered by his owner a few hours before I arrived.
I fell in love with him right away, and filled out the foster/adoption forms right away, and took him home as a foster the next day. By the next morning we realized something was not right. Oliver is drinking constantly... I mean licks the water bowl dry and anything left on the floor, urinating very often and in high volumes. My husband and I have had to sleep in shifts to make sure he gets outside as often as he needs. The next day we brought him to the vet in fears that there was something more serious going on.
At this time our vet did a number of tests to try to get to the bottom of what was causing our boys troubles. They ruled out a few things, and gave him some medication to combat his mange, along with special shampoo and medicated baths.
This past week his appetite has further decreased, he is losing weight, and this morning urinating blood, again we reached out to our vet. Vet did more blood test and an ultrasound. The results of those test did not look good according to our vet as she feared there may be something wrong with Oliver's liver, so she reccomended that we reach out to a specialist.
Oliver has also been vomiting objects that were unrecognizable that were in his stomach for months. Blockages seen in his scans.
Oliver is currently on stonger antibiotics along with a liver support medication as we await meeting with the specialist.
My Husband and I have fallen head over heels for heels for this boy, and want to do anything and everything for him to be the happy, loving, active dog that we see behind his sickness.
These issues have led to quite the financial burden on my husband and we need help. It is not in my nature to ask for help, especially financial help, but at this point, we are running out of options.
He needs many medications that are very costly, special food that is low in protein that costs over 10.00 a day. Many people would have brought him back to the shelter but we could not, knowing that most likely he would be euthanized. Our pets are like family you do what you need to do because you love them.
UPDATE:
Oliver has been diagnosed with eyelid entropion https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/eyelid-entropion-in-dogs
Surgery costs $1200.00
He also had Emergency surgery to remove 110 bladder stones.
Emergency surgery $3500.00
He also has severe arthrithis, has bones of a 10 year old dog.
His most recent LIFE SAVING surgery was his liver shunt that was done in the Manhattan Animal Hopsital.
Liver Shunt surgery 11,000.00
Plus MRI's, cat scans, xrays
Oliver is now our 20,000.00 dog!!!
Any and all help would mean the world to Oliver and us.
THANK YOU and May GOD BLESS YOU ALL ........
