A communication device can cost over $7000.
Now that Onyx is old enough and is working well with his iPad, which is badly cracked (we purchased this iPad a year ago and did not include any protection for replacement) we will be purchasing him a new iPad along with officially using it as his communication device!
The price of the iPad, communication app, case, and the protection plan is around $680
This is the cheapest cost to be able to have our child communicate with us on a dependable device that he is comfortable with and if it Is broken can be replaced.
We are so proud of him and the skills he has learned the last year having access to his iPad. We were told not to force the communication apps until he was a little older and to introduce them at 3 he is now ready and confident in navigating the systems of Apple so here we are.
The app is a one time life price and honestly outrageous but at least it isn’t a subscription where they will turn off your child’s voice.
I am a full time caregiver with no pay of course we are stretched thin with my husbands pay and the minimum support we can get while having 4 kids , two of which have autism. This isn’t something we could have planned our life to look like. I haven’t worked since I was pregnant with Onyx 4 years ago so if you would like to help our boy and access to his voice it would be a huge blessing for us.
