Hi, my name is Tamina, and I’m fundraising for my brother in-law Amin 38, survived by his wife Meryem 33, and their surviving children Suheyl 3 and Lale 7 effected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that took place Monday February 6th, 2023 which has killed over thirty thousand people in Turkey and Syria, my brother in-law Amin and his two young daughters Bahar 10 and Fariheh 7 being among the deceased.

My brother in-law along with his wife and 4 young children, the oldest being 10 and their youngest being just 3 years old were trapped under the rubble of their apartment building since 5am Monday February 6th, 2023. Aid workers didn’t reach them until February 7th 1pm.

Aid workers were able to finally rescue my sister in-law Meryem and two of their children Lale 9 and Suheyl 3 to safety after working over 10 hours. Unfortunately, by the time they reached my brother in-law and his daughters Bahar 10 and Fariheh 7 they confirmed they have passed away. My brother in law and his family left Afghanistan to escape the cruelty of the Taliban so that he may build a better life for his children in Turkey, only to be faced by this devastating tragedy.

My sister in-law is in the ICU in Ankara, the doctors had to amputate her leg. Their daughter Lale and son Suheyl also needed surgery. My husband is currently in Diyabakir Turkey, with his niece Lale 9 who is in the ICU. She’s had two surgeries to try and save her left leg from amputation. Doctors are waiting for signs of improvement after her last surgery and have given us until February 13. Our nephew Suhyel 3 was transported from Adiyaman hospital to Ankara for surgery but we have not been successful in locating him, we have no leads as to where he can be.

We will be using these funds to help my sister in-law Meryem and her two surviving children Lale 9 and Suheyl 3 with housing, food, medical expenses and everything else they will need. Meryem has a long road to recovery with her leg being amputated, I am hoping these funds will ease some of Meryems worries and allow her to heal and focus on her surviving children.

Please keep my family and all those effected in your prayers.

Meryem and her son Suheyl, have been transferred to two separate rehabilitation hospitals where they will wait for their wounds to heal before starting physical therapy. Unfortunately, Lale’s doctors were not able to save her left leg. Lale’s left leg was amputated on Tuesday.

Meryem and her children still have a long road to recovery and need years of  physical, mental, and emotional rehabilitation. It is unclear if Meryem and her children will be provided with prosthesis due to their refugee status in Turkey.

These images of Meryem were taken just a week ago, her doctors wanted to send her home in these conditions and for her to wait it out until a place opened up for her at the rehabilitation hospital. After several phone calls and many arguments later we were able to get her a spot at a rehabilitation hospital.

I have learned first hand that Turkey is a country based on who you know and your status in society unfortunately, even when it come to a simple thing as requesting to speak with a doctor.

I don’t want to wait it out to see if and when Meryem and her children will be provided with prosthesis and the right rehabilitation care by the Turkish government. I want to look into private rehabilitation centers and organizations that will help provide the right care for Meryem and her children.

I can’t do this alone, please donate if you can to help toward providing prosthesis, wheelchairs, and rehabilitation care to Meryem and her children.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

We have located our sweet Suhyel, he is currently in the ICU at a hospital in Ankara.  Unfortunately, Suheyl’s right leg has been amputated. We thank god Suhyel has been found and has family with him in the hospital. Lale’s doctors are still working on saving her leg but they don’t seem optimistic.

Meryem and her two children have a long road to recovery and will need all the support they can get. Please continue sharing their story to help. Thank you❤️🙏
