I’m fundraising to help get a good vehicle. I am my 66 yr old disabled mom’s caregiver. I’m 50 and a type 1 diabetic. For the last handfuls of years I have had 2 very rusty and unstable cars. So bad with rust underneath that several mechanics have said no to doing repairs. We live in northern Michigan, where getting a cheap reliable vehicle is impossible. While I do get paid to be my mom’s caregiver, it’s very little. Less than a thousand dollars a month and mom’s social security is also. We have been struggling to get ourselves to important Dr appointments, like a biopsy for mom, gastroenterologist for me, and taking care of our everyday needs. Including simple things like running to the grocery store. Mom uses a walker, I’m on an insulin pump with a cgm, so walking isn’t a choice. We have been able to schedule a few rides through our medical insurance, but many have been canceled minutes before we are supposed to be picked up, due to a lack of drivers in our area. All of our relatives work during business hours and live in different areas.
We have been praying for a solution. Obtaining a loan on our limited income has not worked out. We live together so it is easier for me to take care of her needs, we are only missing a vehicle to get from point A to B. Like most places here up north, traveling to appointments is a great distance from home.
When I tried fundraising a few years ago, I was mostly contacted by scammers. I got some small donations but could only afford to get a $1500. 00 vehicle which didn’t last long. I will not give personal contact information out, due to an abundance of caution. Neither of us will use apps like cashapp or venmo. I believe honest people will donate directly to this fundraiser. I’m saving every penny I can and trying to sell my completely broken car as a parts car or bump n run car. I’m positive I won’t get much for it or any offers at all and will have to scrap it at a junk yard.
