On Monday, April 21, our beloved sister-in-law Jessie Galvin began to feel what she believed to be gastric discomfort. She was 30 weeks pregnant with their fifth baby. A few hours later, Jessie began having a massive seizure. She was rushed to the hospital and the decision was made to deliver her baby via emergency C-section. Jessie was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, a rare but life threatening attack of high blood pressure in pregnancy that can cause liver, kidney, and vascular damage, and in worst case scenarios death of mother and baby. Thanks to many, many prayers and a fantastic medical team, after a week in the ICU and multiple transfusions, Jessie’ vitals are returning to normal. Baby Felicity is also doing as well as can be hoped for. Due to a partial placental abruption caused by the seizure, she was not receiving adequate oxygen for a period of time. Thanks be to God, she is strong for her gestational age; already taking breaths on her own with the help of a low dose ventilator, and hopefully ready to receive her mother’s milk by feeding tube within a week. She was transferred to a NICU about a half hour away from where she was delivered, and will be there for at least 6-12 weeks. Updated 4/25- Felicity is retaining fluid on her lungs, and pneumonia is a concern. Please pray for a quick resolution.
This sweet family is in great need of support following this catastrophic event. Peter will need to be in a near constant state of traveling between Jessie and Felicity. They deeply wish to keep their other four children at home rather than being moved to out of state family care, minimizing the trauma caused by this separation, but available in state family members live up to an hour away, and risk losing their jobs and income with the amount of time needed for round the clock care of the children and Jessie when she is released from the hospital. Our hope is to be able to support them in their financial need for travel expenses, car rentals, hotel stays, food, and income replacement for the time taken off work.
In your charity, please consider donating to Jessie and Felicity’s care. Even small amounts are greatly appreciated, and will go a long way towards lifting the burden they are experiencing right now. If unable to gift financially, please pray for their continued recovery and best case health outcomes for both mother and baby.
May God bless your generosity!
