I was being real hesitant on posting this, But I’m hoping it brings awareness to someone else.
Back in 2022 I had a nephrostomy tube put in due to my right kidney not draining properly, I was told it would subside on its own, I had 8 different surgeries because it kept coming out, Everytime they would put it back in it was placed in a different spot, In June of 2023 I had it removed, For 3 years I’ve had this constant sharp pain in my side to the point I live on a heating pad, It would get so bad that I couldn’t eat or anything because it would make me sick. After seeing my urologist in Columbus Ga several different times, they wouldn’t do tests or anything kept telling me everything was fine, in Feb 2025 I had a colonoscopy & endoscopy done, During the scans they had done it showed my kidneys were extremely inflamed, I then called my urologist again and made yet another appointment, They proceeded to tell me I just needed to go to pain management. I took matters into my own hands and made an appointment with urology of greater Atlanta, During my first appointment he went over all my notes from doctors and scheduled me for 3 different procedures, During one of those procedures they found a 6cm mass on my right kidney and confirmed there was a blockage but he could not find it so I was referred to another Dr that was more qualified for the issues I was having, I was then told my right kidney was at 29.9% and my left was at 44.3%, I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, When seeing the new Dr he told me he wanted to put in a stent in my right kidney, I had the surgery done on July 24th 2025, During my follow up appointment this past Thursday I was informed when they done scans before placing the stent it showed the tube that goes from your kidney to your bladder mine is twisted and curved which is why I’m in so much pain. They removed the stent this past Thursday due to it not being able to work properly because of the way my kidney is. I was scheduled for another surgery for September 24th 2025 that was considered a “major” surgery, They went through robotic to cut the tube and try to repair it with a possible convert to open procedure, if it cannot be repaired they will have to remove my kidney. There was a 50/50 chance this will either help or make everything worse, Just like there was a 50/50 chance that can either kill me or not, As most of you know I am a single mama of 3, So for me to be down from 3 different jobs that long it’s going to make it hard on me, In December 2025 I had a pacemaker placed in my small intestine to help with a condition called gastroparesis, My stomach is completely paralyzed. In February I had my first follow up, He went up on the voltage of the device to max voltage, I was able to “manage” symptoms or really just trying not to think about it so I could be with my babies, I’ve been living with intense pain + Nausea & Vomiting for a while now but nothing compares to the past 2 months, In April I went to the hospital for the pain and they done a bunch of blood work on the hour for 4 hours along with a CT W contrast, It showed I was in kidney failure (which we knew!) one of the wires on device was shown to be “dislodged” for the past few days I’ve been experiencing a lot of “blood” coming out, I had an appointment today with my Nurse Practitioner, During this appointment it was made clear that I am not getting the nutrients that I need to survive, she did do an ultrasound and it showed blood in my abdomen, She also done more blood work and it showed my organs are starting to shut down because of this device. She has reached out to my dr and awaiting the phone call to know what he wants to do. You know this device was SUPPOSED to help but it’s doing the complete opposite, I go early June for a ct of my stomach + pelvis. At this point, The device cannot come out because either way it will kill me because it shifted a little during recovery so it’s to close to another organ.
I have to undergo surgery again, I don’t have the date yet, But they are going to cut a section of my stomach out below my breast and that is where they will place the feeding tube and I will be getting my food from that & I will have to live with that the rest of my life - the time I have left anyways.
You know, sitting there listening to all this earlier hit me like a ton of bricks - She looked at me and said “Is this something you’re open too” and I just looked at her balling my eyes out saying “I have 3 kids at home that need me what choice do I have”
