Last week, I found a half-dead kitten in the walkway between the building of where we live and the one next door.
The day after we found her, through the kindness of a dear friend, we were able to get the kitten a visit to the ER, where they put a splint on her broken leg, and gave her some medication.
Today, we took her in for a surgical consultation with MedVet where they said they would charge about $6,000 in order to align the bones, pin them (one pin going up, and one going down) because the fracture is in her growth plate (it is known as a Salter-Harris fracture). Her growth plate may be permanently damaged, but she is a kitten with soft bones. She will need 6 weeks pf confinement to a dog crate. She needs blood work, and anesthesia also cost money. There is a danger that the screws will migrate out. The longer we wait, the worse it will be.
The Doctor said that amputating the leg is an option but it will cost the same at MedVet.
My daughter is a dancer and we all are beside ourse with grief and anxiety over this little kitten whom we cannot help. Can you?
