You've heard his talents; you know his name. Chris McVey, singer and guitar player of Those Guys. He has never asked for help... until now.

Here's a timeline of what Chris has been going through...

2018: Accidentally took an overdose of medication which led to him *almost* dying multiple times. Was hospitalized for one month, in critical condition with congestive heart failure. He was given a pacemaker to save his life! Luckily, Flagler Hopsital and affiliates wrote off ALL $403,000 worth of medical bills! The road to recovery was a rough one, but he pulled through like a champ.

April 13 2021: While helping a co-worker out on the sprinkler side of his job, Chris, following protocol, opened up a valve to a pump he was testing. The valve broke off and exploded! After the valve slammed him in the left thigh, about 260 psi (basically a wall) of water blew him about 20 feet across the street. Chris landed on his left side, shattering his left arm and bashing his face. Now drowning in water, he was forced to quickly crawl up to the sidewalk to safety.

The complications from the accident that followed are... pretty much unreal.

Chris required two major surgeries on his left arm (his guitar chord-playing arm). He has not picked up a guitar in an entire year. He also developed severe cellulitus (infection of the tissue) in his left leg where the valve blew off and slammed into him. This put him down for almost three months, from the time he was finally given the best antibiotic (via IV) to the time his therapy was complete. During work hardening (a therapy program to help people get back in shape for work), Chris blew blood vessels in his eye which have him out of commission now until the eye can be surgically resolved. Chris has been suffering not only from constant pain from this accident, we are also struggling as he is making only HALF of his pay right now, due to being on Workman's Comp.

February 14, 2022: Here's the real kicker... on Valentine's Day, this year, Chris was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer. Squaimous H cell carcinoma, to be exact, in his throat. This has left him with severe neck, ear, and throat pain which he's been dealing with since September 2021. That's the easy part, though -- the tough part, and why we're asking for help, is Chris will now need 7 weeks (35 doses) of radition, along with three doses of chemotherapy in order to kick this cancer in the butt. There's also a small polyp on his vocal chord, which gets biopsied soon. We'll have an update on that soon.

This man has been through the absolute ringer. Watching him suffer has of course been the hardest part about all of this, for me. However, in the meantime, the bills are piling up, wages are disappearing, and we're stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Any and all help for this amazing, incredibly resilient guy is so very much appreciated! Thank you for reading -- have a blessed day!

Hello! I wanted to fill in Chris's circle of friends on what has been up in our neck of the woods. I know he has tons of people who care about him, and for those of his friends who saw this he's says he's especially wanting me to update today... so here goes.

Chris has been following up on his cancer status for the past 2 years (can you believe how times passes) and is STILL in the clear!! However, he, like so many cancer survivors, still struggles with complications from the 7 weeks of chemo and 35 sessions of radiation. The stuff is poison unfortunately. The alternative was much worse though.

Anyway, he is finally home today after a full day of being in surgery so the cardiac doc could do tons of tests and figure out why his heart is NOT working right.. he thankfully didn't need stents but the results will be in soon. The doc suspects the radiation messed up one of his main heart valves and "hardened" that area causing blockage. Right now he's snoring on the couch, we're told to treat his arm "like a broken arm," because they have to go up inside through vulnerable arteries to figure out what the heck is going on. (He's already trying to use his arm, of course, so I strapped it in an old sling and made him take a nap on the couch, haha!!)

A family member gave Chris an old Apple watch for his birthday last March, and, as I'd hoped, he's been inspired to start taking charge of his health!! Now he bikes and gets at LEAST 10,000 steps with me, daily. I think this is what probably kept him from having worse news after today. My awesome nurse mama agrees. Phew.

The work accident crud is still in the works (it wasn't his fault, I'll leave it at that). UGH. The kicker there is his specialist said to him, "if it weren't for the trauma due to your work accident, this cancer may have not reared it's ugly head so early." Greeeeeeeeeat. And that work accident was 3 years ago now, 1 month after we moved into our brand-new house after working our tails off together. Is this place possessed, or what??? :-P It's been quite the ride since.

BTW, now we frame and hang up BOTH our pending medical, etc. bills so we have memories to look at day to day. LOLLLLLLLLL.

But I digress.

As for me, well, blah blah. I see my doc every 3 months for the cervical cancerous cells... annnnd, guess who's BACK?? Yep, the mean cells. That's a whole other story, not for right now. In the meantime my own personal/med issues (don't we ALL have 'em??) just add to our lovely stockpile of I-O-U's.

Chris has a network of loving people and strong lawyers, though. We are NOT going down. We have done everything in our power to keep ourselves afloat, while still pushing ourselves to enjoy life's simple pleasures. We are two very smart and creative people, hehe. The light is slowly getting brighter at the end of our tunnel....

Of course the holidays are coming and Chris hopes everyone "has a blast." :) I know we will.

Thank ya'll. So much. He wanted me to write this out to everyone so I'm having fun with it. If we don't laugh in life, we'll scream. :D

Everyone be safe as we end this year and maybe see some of you soon. Blessings to all.

Hello all you wonderful givers. 😊

We just wanted to give an update. 😳

1. Chris got word from the oncologist that there is a cluster of lymph nodes in his throat, near where the tumor was, that appear to be growing. A few experts treating him agree that they seem oversized and resemble malignant tumors. However, it is too early to test as he is fresh out of treatment, so we won't know much more until middle of September.

2. Tonight we discovered Chris's chemo port is infected. Awesome. πŸ˜‚ Treatment and updates to come.

3. I am scheduled for yet another biopsy and Pap smear for the cancerous cells found in my cervix next week. I am not looking forward to the pain but hey, I'm a woman. We got this. πŸ’ͺ🏽

So anyway, we just wanted to fill everyone in. Again, we are SO thankful for you all. Sending our love and hoping everyone is happy and healthy!!

Hey everyone! We hope this update finds everyone doing well.

Chris got his last planned dose of chemo on Wednesday! He's struggling a ton and has been lucky enough to get ALL the symptoms. Lol! Fatigue, vomiting, loss of hair, rash, headaches, no appetite, sleepless nights... you name it! But, he's pulling through like a trooper. We are so looking forward to his last radiation treatment so we can get over this huge bump in the road.

To boot, I have been down for the past few weeks after finding out I had a "high-grade lesion" on my cervix. All signs pointed to cancer and my doctor immediately took the reigns and removed a significant portion of my cervix. (OUCH, to say the least.) Apparently it would have started spreading within the next two months! An evaluation of the tissue removed concluded that it had NOT spread yet, and all of the cancerous tissue was removed. More medical bills to come, but at least we caught it just in time.

In the meantime, we soak up the support of my loving, amazing parents and reflect daily on how thankful we are to know so many giving, loving people. We spend the weekends decompressing with mom and dad. When Chris can go back out into public, we hope to meet up with all his amazing friends who have given us so much!

Maybe that house warming party we tried to plan before Chris's work accident is in order!!

Thanks again to all of you. Be blessed!

Chris got the news that his polyp on the vocal chord is not cancer! It was removed.

Today we learned however that he will be requiring 7-8 doses of chemo instead of the original 3 we first were told. Chemo and radiation starts April 25. He will be equipped with a feeding tube right off the bat and port to inject the chemotherapy.

Thank you so much to everyone for your help!!
