My name is Grace and I’ve been a type one diabetic for 20 years! Two decades - wow.
Ever since I was younger, I’ve wanted a diabetic dog. If you’re unaware what a diabetic dog is, it’s defined as:
“A diabetic alert dog is trained to alert you of a blood sugar drop or spike while you're still awake enough to treat your blood sugar levels or get help” (WebMD, 2023).
Although I have both an insulin pump and CGM device, a diabetic dog would ensure my safety at ALL times, being a companion to assist me with any trips, activities, or errands I want/need to do, especially by myself.
Diabetic dogs can be expensive, because each dog is already trained and equipped once matched with their diabetic. While I am not asking for the entire amount, this amount would help ensure I can finance, set up a payment plan, or even receive a grant to be able to afford this service dog. Any amount helps, and if you can not donate, sharing would help just as much.
