In Yawata village, Benue State, what once was a peaceful farming community has been reduced to ashes and silence by blood thirsty islamic terrorist group .
Smoke still rises from what used to be homes where children played under mango trees, where women gathered to trade at the early morning market, and where families worshipped together in small village churches filled with hope and song. In a single wave of violent attacks, lives were shattered families scattered, homes burned, and entire streets turned to ruins. About an estimated dead bodies of more than 80 killed in one night including children.
Those who survived fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Mothers now carry children who no longer understand why their world changed overnight. Fathers search through debris for any trace of what they once called home. The elderly sit in shock, grieving not only the loss of shelter but the loss of their community, their dignity, and their sense of safety.
Yawata is now filled with displacement—families sleeping in temporary shelters, struggling for food, clean water, and medical care. The need is urgent and overwhelming.
