Help Me Bring Coco Home š¦š
Sometimes an animal comes into your life and, for reasons you canāt fully explain, you just know.
Thatās Coco for me.
Coco is a 15-year-old Double Yellow-Headed Amazon parrot. The first five years of her life are largely unknown. What we do know is that she then spent approximately 10 years living in a pet store in Missouri before eventually making her way to Iowa.
Ten years.
Ten years watching people come and go. Ten years surrounded by noise, cages, and strangers. Ten years without having a home that was truly hers.
And then I met her.
I wasnāt looking for another animal. I certainly wasnāt expecting to walk into a store and feel an immediate connection with a parrot.
But Coco had other plans.
There was something about her that pulled me in. I kept going back to see her. The more time I spent with her, the more attached I becameāand somewhere along the way, this stopped being about a bird I liked visiting.
I started imagining her home.
A real home.
A place where she could finally unpack the last decade of her life and learn what it feels like to belong to someone.
And maybe the reason her story hit me so hard is because I understand, in my own way, what it means to have your entire world change.
I lost my daughter.
I went through a divorce.
There have been chapters of my life where I genuinely didnāt know what life was supposed to look like afterward. Iāve spent a long time rebuildingāfinding myself again, creating stability, finding joy in little things, and learning that life can still hold beautiful things after unimaginable loss.
And then this stubborn, beautiful, incredibly intelligent bird showed up.
Coco doesnāt know my story.
She doesnāt know about the grief Iāve carried or the life Iāve had to rebuild.
And she doesnāt need to.
There is something incredibly healing about an animal choosing to trust you without knowing any of those things.
Maybe thatās why I see a little bit of myself in her.
Two girls with complicated stories who deserve a softer next chapter.
Coco deserves to know what itās like to wake up in the same home every morning. To have her own person. To have enrichment, proper nutrition, veterinary care, room to explore, and someone committed to her for the rest of her life.
Amazon parrots can live for decades, so bringing Coco home isnāt a decision I take lightly. Itās a commitmentāand itās one Iām ready to make.
The obstacle is the cost.
My goal is to raise $3,500 to purchase Coco and bring her home.
Iām asking for help because sometimes community is how impossible things become possible.
If you can donateāeven $5āit gets us a little closer.
If you canāt donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as valuable. Share Cocoās story. Send it to an animal lover. Post it on TikTok or Facebook. Help her story reach the person who might understand exactly why she has captured my heart.
Iāve spent a lot of my life learning that you canāt save everything.
But every once in a while, something crosses your path and you realize:
Maybe youāre not supposed to save everything.
Maybe youāre just supposed to show up for the one that found you.
Coco found me.
Now Iām trying to bring her home. š¦š
Thank you for being part of her next chapter.
Help us bring Coco home.
