I received a phone call one day from the district office that Kaylee was moving to a group home in Hillsborough County and that they needed her education records.  I had been her assistant principal opal for almost a year and knew her potential.  I did not want to see her go to a group home so I immediately offered to foster. She came home to Chris and I three days later. She failed all of middle school as a result of her mother‘s poor life choices and we eventually got permanent guardianship. She recovered all of her middle school coursework and was able to go on to high school where she ended up graduating 11 out of 294 in her class. As a result, she got a full scholarship to Pasco Hernando State College, where she is finishing her second year. We purchased her a car when she was a junior in high school and it died October 2025 the car and was not fixable. We recently bought her a car in November 2025 from a local well known used car dealership. It is a 2016 Volkswagen Passat in excellent condition. She had the oil changed on January 11, 2026 no issues at the Wesley Chapel VW dealership.  On February 7 her car started, but the entire car was shaking. We were told it needs a new engine for the amount of $5800 from the VW dealership. We told the dealership we purchased it from and they ask that it be towed to them.  Another $270 and we had it towed for Kaylee.  They said it did need a new engine.  She already has a car loan of $8000 for this car. The used car dealer is stating it was an as is sale so now she’s stuck with an $8000 car that needs $5800 in repairs. She’s going to school full-time and she’s working full-time and obviously she doesn’t have this kind of cash. She’s been handed a horrible card in life and literally has no family except us.  We’ve been desperately trying to give this kid a couple steps up to help launch her into life. Because once you turn 18 there is no more type of support from the foster system. If you know anybody that would be willing to donate to help her get the repairs to this car it would be greatly appreciated, and she will certainly pay it forward in life.
