My name is Allison Hull, and this fundraiser is being created for my friend, Abdullah Elqumbarji. He has made the difficult decision to leave the Gaza Strip to find work, because as you know, it has been decimated and job opportunities are incredibly limited.
Abdullah will leave behind his mother, father and his two youngest siblings, Karima and Majdi. This is a painful prospect, but he doesn't have a choice due to the desperate situation in which they struggle to survive. Anything we can do to make this a possibility has to be done.
The border has finally opened, so we want to make sure Abdullah is prepared and able to act as soon as possible. We have started with a goal of $5,000, because this is the amount that was required before the border closed, but we are hoping it is less. Any funds that do not go directly toward leaving to Egypt will be spent on covering his survival needs in Egypt, including food, clothing, personal hygiene items, medications, and anything else necessary for Abdullah's well-being.
We don't know what the future holds, but we are working on finding schooling or work so that Abdullah can continue to support his family long-term. If for some reason he is prevented from leaving, Abdullah will end up using the funds to rebuild his life. The family cannot return to their former land, so they will have to continue to rent a house, and with no realistic job opportunities, expenses will add up quickly. While Abdullah has another campaign to address the needs of the family's daily expenses, there is always a chance some of these funds will go toward emergencies- medical, etc.
