My name is Dr. Joe DeMarco, and I am a chiropractor in Manchester, MA. Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for fitness and animals. Over the course of my life, I have fostered and rescued many animals that were in need. My love of animals is also the reason that I maintain a 100% plant based diet.
My passion for health and fitness has taken me from being a high level gymnast in college to a 20 year bodybuilding career. My titles have included the 2007 Masters National Bodybuilding Champion. Since retiring from bodybuilding, I have continued to train hard, eat healthy and inspire others. I currently have a YouTube channel called OcraMed Health that produces videos on exercise, fitness, injury treatment/prevention and wellness.
Even at 57 years young, I like to continually challenge myself. That is why I recently decided to do something that combines my two passions: animals and fitness. My motivation, for this most recent challenge, was my dog Buddha. I adopted Buddha about 2 years ago. Although not much is known about Buddha's past, I know it was not good. Buddha is loveable and sweet but had certain "triggers" from his past. He was most likely used as a guard dog as people coming through doors enrage him.
With a lot of hard work, and a loving home, Buddha became the sweet, lovable dog that was always deep inside of him. Unfortunately, Buddha has had a very tough year. He injured his back about a year ago and lost the use of his hind legs. Then, this past summer, I found a lump in his belly, which turned out to be a malignant tumor on his spleen. His spleen was removed but the cancer had already spread.
I don't know how much longer Buddha will be with me, but I have dedicated my latest challenge to him.
On Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 (8 AM-8 PM), I will be attempting to break the 8 (current record 14,444) and 12 hour (current record 20,085) Guinness World Record for push ups. The event will be taking place at the MAC Fitness Gloucester (6 Whistle Stop Way, Gloucester, MA) and all money raised will go to Cape Ann Animal Aid located in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
I will be live streaming this event on my YouTube channel OcraMed Health. For questions, or more information, please feel free to call my office at 978-525-3800 or email me directly at drjoe@ocramedhealth.com.
