If someone had told me a few years ago that I'd be writing these words, I never would have believed them.
There was a time when I didn't know if my son would live to see another birthday. Addiction consumed his life, and as his mother, I lived every parent's worst nightmare. I waited for late-night phone calls, held my breath every time my phone rang, and prayed over a child I was terrified of losing.
There are no words to describe the pain of watching someone you love disappear while they're still alive.
By the grace of God, recovery found him.
Today, the son I prayed for is back. Not only is he alive—he's living with purpose. He spends his free time feeding people experiencing homelessness, handing out hygiene supplies, teaching Narcan classes, sitting with people everyone else walks past, and reminding families that recovery is possible because he is living proof.
This month, he's taking another step I once thought I'd never see. He's starting college to pursue a career helping others who are fighting the same battle he survived. The future he never thought he'd have is finally becoming a reality.
But addiction leaves scars.
Some scars are invisible. Others are impossible to hide.
Every time my son smiles, I see the damage addiction left behind. I watch him cover his mouth when he laughs. I see him hesitate before taking pictures. I see the insecurity he carries, even after everything he has overcome. It breaks my heart because I know that when he looks in the mirror, he doesn't always see the incredible man he has become. Sometimes he still sees the addiction he fought so hard to leave behind.
As his mom, I wish I could fix this for him myself. I would in a heartbeat. But the cost of restoring his teeth is more than our family can afford.
Asking for help is not easy. In fact, it's one of the hardest things I've ever done. But if you've ever believed in recovery... if you've ever believed people deserve second chances... I'm asking you to believe in my son.
Your donation isn't just helping pay for dental work.
You're helping a young man begin college with confidence.
You're helping someone smile without shame for the first time in years.
You're helping erase one of addiction's last visible reminders.
Most importantly, you're investing in someone who has dedicated his second chance to helping others find theirs.
If you're unable to donate, we completely understand. Sharing this fundraiser or keeping my son in your prayers means just as much.
Recovery gave me my son back.
Now I'm praying we can give him back his smile. If youre uncomfortable using this platform, I have other ways for you to donate, just send me messages.
From the bottom of a mother's heart, thank you for believing in him.
With love and gratitude,
His Mom
Amy
