Help Me Get Home to Say Goodbye to My Dad
I never imagined I would be writing something like this.
Since December, my dad has been fighting for his life, spending months going back and forth between the hospital and rehabilitation facilities. Every time we thought he was making progress, another setback followed. A week ago Friday, he suffered a cardiac arrest. After fighting as hard as he could, he passed away on July 4th.
Over these past seven months, I've made countless trips from North Carolina to New York to be with him whenever I could. Like so many families facing a long medical crisis, the financial burden quietly grew with every trip, every missed day of work, and every unexpected expense. I've drained my savings, borrowed against my 401(k), and used nearly all of my paid time off. I came home believing I would have a little more time, only to receive the call that my dad was gone just 23 hours later.
Now I'm faced with something no child ever wants to face: finding a way to get back to New York to attend my father's funeral and stand beside my family as we say our final goodbye.
Asking for help has never come easily to me, but right now I don't have another option. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go toward travel expenses and the costs of getting me back to New York for my dad's funeral. If you're unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to me.
Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and for helping me make it home to honor the man who will always be my dad.
