Where do I begin? Kyrie is my 9 year old youngest son. He has been in and out of the hospital since I gave birth to him, poor baby. He was admitted into the hospital when he was 3 years old because he stopped breathing during his sleep and I had to perform CPR on him. His oxygen levels were 50 at the time and it seemed like it took forever to get them back to normal.
The most recent events started in October of 2022. My youngest son, Kyrie, became very sick. He would throw up multiple times throughout the day, even if he had not eaten anything he would throw up. We went to his pediatrician numerous times & he was put on different medications. At one point they said it was motion sickness from riding in the car or on the daycare van at the time. But I knew it wasn’t that because he would throw up & he had not even been inside a vehicle that day. So finally we got referred to the Gastro Peds Dr in Macon. He had to have an endoscopy at 6 years old. (I ended up changing his pediatrician) The GI Dr. found a lot of nodules all inside of his stomach, so they did a biopsy. This was the biggest scare because they did not know for sure if it was cancerous. All praise to God, it came back NOT CANCER! He has something called Eosinophilic Esophagitis. This is a chronic allergy condition that causes inflammation of the esophagus. We also had him retested for allergies and he was allergic to 66/99 things he was tested for! The Gastro Dr. put him on a liquid medicine which seemed to help, but now they no longer make the liquid form. The capsule they put him on is hard for him to swallow, I have tried breaking it in half & pouring it into something..of course he hates it. Well, we found a chewable form over the counter but of course insurance doesn’t pay for that! I also don’t feel like it is helping him like the liquid form did. He still has stomach aches almost every day. Some days he gets really nauseous & sometimes he does throw up. This happens 3-4 times a week. I have tried changing his diet, which any parent knows for a 9 year old, that is extremely hard to do. Two years has gone by now & he is still having stomach issues.
Fast forward to October 2024: Kendrick (my oldest son) & Kyrie was both sick on 10/21.. Kyrie woke up that morning with a fever & later that day the school called me to come get Kendrick bc he was running a fever too. So I took them to the express care, flu, strep & covid was negative so they said it was rhinovirus. They didn’t give them any medicine, just said keep rotating ibuprofen/Tylenol for fever. So fast forward to Thursday.. They both went back to school since they didn’t have a fever & were feeling better. By Sunday 10/27 Kendrick’s voice was gone Monday comes & I get a phone call to come get him from school again bc he had fever Tuesday comes & he is pitiful ..he’s throwing up, upset stomach & had a really bad headache. I gave him Zofran & Ibuprofen. He still wasn’t keeping anything down, so back to express care we went. Again flu, strep & Covid was negative. This time they said he had bronchitis & mycoplasma pneumonia & prescribed him a Zpak. Wednesday I could tell he really didn’t feel good bc he is ALWAYS playing the game.. he didn’t even touch the game this week. I gave him more Zofran, Tylenol & Imodium. I kept telling him to drink water & I got him Powerade but he threw that up So Friday I called his pediatrician & got him in with them. AGAIN..FLU, STREP & COVID negative…They prescribed him more Zofran & also some amoxicillin, which he has taken the liquid before plenty of times. Well the older Kendrick has gotten, he doesn’t like liquid meds of any kind so they gave him the pills. He took one pill last night & this morning he woke me up @6:30 saying he was itching everywhere. I was like that’s weird so I gave him Hydroxyzine (Kyrie has so many allergies I have to keep that on hand.)
Fast forward to 11:30: I looked at his hands, they were swollen & very red. He started pointing to his throat (he could barely speak) he was saying something is wrong I can’t breathe well.. I immediately got my stuff & got him in the car, and rushed him to the ER. By the time we got to triage in the ER his throat had closed up.. his fever was 104, heart rate went from 170 to 199 & his blood pressure was 133/108. They rushed him back to a room pretty fast, I was scared not even going to lie but I stayed calm because he was freakin out & that wasn’t helping his heart rate any. They finally got the IV in his arm .. got him Benadryl & some fluids. His heart rate went down to 135, blood pressure went down to 130/69 & his fever was 100.4 last time they checked. He was so dehydrated Y'all this made the 2nd most scariest day of my life & I hope no parent EVER has to experience anything like it. The look on my baby’s face was terrifying & I wanted to take it all away but I couldn’t .. I did everything I knew to do. Needless to say, he’s allergic to amoxicillin!! Even though he has had the liquid kind before.. apparently the pill has something different in it He still has a fever, still a little puffy & has bumps everywhere but by the grace of GOD he is okay!!!!
So fast forward to 11/14/24, Kyrie got really sick that night & was screaming in pain because his stomach hurt so bad. 11/15/24 we were sent back to Macon with him, he had a CT scan and was told he had a blockage. He has gained 10lbs in two weeks, which was very concerning to me. He is now on a liquid diet, which means he can only eat jello, broth or popsicles. This is also a challenge for a 9 year old!! He has to take this medicine every hour to see if it will work without any solid food on his stomach. Originally they were going to wait until after Sunday 11/24 for the outcome, but now they called this morning and want to go ahead with the surgery. I don’t know when yet. Also, this will be the 3rd time he’s been put under anesthesia.
I have already missed a lot of work throughout all of this & do not have PTO. I never ask for help, but I really don’t have another choice right now. Anything will help & I promise I appreciate you all. Even if you cannot donate, please keep us in your prayers!
Thank you,
Breanna
