Hi, this is Cheryl Wencl, friend of Liz's.
On Aug 3, Liz was out riding her motorcycle in Faribault MNand lost control and hit a tree-unfortunately the tree didn't move and she broke her pelvis and had a compound fracture in her femur. Liz was taken by ambulance to the Faribault airport where they put her on a helicopter and transferred her to North Memorial in the cities. Liz lost an enormous amount of blood and was in shock. They prepared her for immediate emergency surgery and they temporarily set her left leg with pins on the outside. After this, Liz spent her next days in the ICU waiting for more surgery. 4 days later, they went in to repair the leg and the pelvis. This was a 6-7 hour surgery. They put a rod in the femur along with many screws. They put a plate with many screws in the pelvis and sent back ICU and then was transferred to a room.
Liz spent a total of 2 weeks at North Memorial and was then transferred to Koda-Benedictine in Owatonna for rehab. Liz will be released to go home on Wednesday, August 30th but has a very long road of recovery ahead of her.
At this point she is in a wheelchair and cannot put any weight on her left leg. Liz has to have special things made in order for her house to be accessible for her. She has state insurance which seems to be paying the medical bills however, her employer does not have any short-term or long-term disability, so she has absolutely no income coming in to pay her monthly bills and will be off work for an undetermined amount of time.
We are asking to help us raise money for Liz, daughter of Gary Thompson and Leona Thompson, so she doesn't lose her house and can continue her treatments. If Without knowing how long she will be off of work with no income, we are praying 🙏 that you see it in your heart to donate as little or as much as you can.
An update. Liz is able to start putting weight on her leg. She is back to work part-time. However, she has to have one more surgery which will put her back some. Liz has gone 2 months without any income. Please find it in your heart to help her get back on track. She's been working very hard on her recovery.
Update 1/24/24 Liz is walking with a cane now. She has a limp which will get better as the leg gets stronger. She is still struggling financially. Her employer changed her job to part time from full time. Liz thanks everyone for the prayers. They have worked.
