This is the important story of Fairhope’s own Murray Lawrence, who was wrongly convicted and incarcerated in 2003 for the murder of Gary Brandon Hastings.
As detailed in the full story, the case is marred by racial bias, inequity, and suppressed evidence. Murray's conviction was based solely on the testimony of the actual killer, a convicted criminal who was coerced into framing Murray as an accomplice in exchange for avoiding capital punishment.
After 20 years in Holman Prison, our dedicated team of advocates is on the verge of finally obtaining justice for Murray Lawrence Jr.
We owe many thanks to those who have helped us reach this point, especially Professor LaJuana Davis of the Cumberland Innocence Clinic (CIC) and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
While we have been fortunate to have a team of top attorneys in Birmingham, working "pro bono," the criminal appeals process now mandates hard-cost payment of $5,000 filing fee. Plus another approximate $1000 for copying records, totaling $6,000 by Monday, July 29th, 2024.
