After battling it out at the regional championship, then against 24 teams at the state championship, the OGCS Hurricanes Robotics Team won one of two spots to represent the state of South Carolina at the WORLD Championships in Houston! Earning the coveted “Inspire Award”, their team of mostly middle school students beat out high school teams to earn their place at Worlds. In April, they will be going up against 99 national teams (2 per state), as well as teams from over 23 countries, mostly all made up of high schoolers.
Riley has thoroughly enjoyed her time working with the team and has really dug into the coding side of things. Eric and I have learned (and are still learning!) about how the Battles of the Bots work, and it is amazing to see how the kids’ hard work, creativity and perseverance pays off each and every time. We are definitely encouraging her to follow her passion, not least for the job security that she may benefit from in a few years!
Now comes the fun part- GETTING THEM TO HOUSTON! If you are able to help in any way, large or small, please do so! The team will be flying to Houston to compete, and will also need to get their robot there safely and in one piece. Funds raised will help offset expenses for travel, lodging and meals for the team.
