Over the past 8 years of living in this small rural town only 2 minutes from the South Dakota border we have had so many animals come though our home/yard that deserve a good home. Unfortunately where we live, some people get animals just to get them. Tie them up with 2 feet of chain to a tree all summer without playing, feeding and giving them water. Get them as babies and let them go on their own when they become to much to handle or take care of. We have even heard of puppies being thrown from moving cars from people whos female dog had babies and we're not wanted. We have called the sheriff on many occasions to report dogs. We have been attacked on walks with our own dogs by loose, random dogs. Had 2 different neighbors attacked randomly by dogs and required visits to the Dr from injuries. Resources in this area for homeless or lost animals is very limited. Our last run in with a homeless dog was when I decided to try and make a difference in helping with housing and rehoming them. Long story short we had a sweet little dog come into our lives in the middle of Oct of this year. She was freezing cold, thick with dirt and weak from lack of water and food. 3 baths later, a warm place to sleep with food and water and we had just a little sweet heart of a dog on our hands. Loving and caring and such a great personality. Where she came from no one knew. Posted asking on social media for 3 weeks and no one claimed this sweet little girl. With no room at our home I reached out to everyone I could think of to try and find her a home. This is when I realized more then ever we need more help for our four legged friends. We did find help in getting Suzie rehomed but it was not easy. Suzie will be in the good loving home that she deserved finally. I would like to help with getting these abused, mistreated, thrown away animals the good forever homes they deserve. With the funds I am trying to raise I would use it to start a small shelter for housing, cleaning, and feeding them till the next step in life for them. I currently do not have the space or funds to start something like this and thought I would start here to see if people are interested in helping this cause. Realistically our goal is lower then what it will take in the end to complete a 32x 40 area to do this but would like to start out smaller and get going in something smaller for now till we can grow more down the road as something is better then nothing and like I said before, resources are very limited here when it comes to animal control and shelters. Thank you to all that took the time to read this and thank you to all that help get this much needed resource out and going. Thank you!
