Help Me Keep My Home and Rebuild My Life After Financial Abandonment

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but in the span of 72 hours, my entire world completely shattered.

For most of my adult life, I have been a caregiver. For eighteen years, I consistently put the needs of others before my own. I cared for my mother as she battled breast cancer until she passed away in 2012. After losing her, I devoted myself entirely to caring for my partner. Since 2015, I stood firmly beside her through severe mental health struggles, medical emergencies, and unpredictable seizures that made daily life incredibly difficult. None of those health challenges were her fault, and I never saw them as a burden. I loved her, and I wanted more than anything for her to succeed.

I stayed through every single crisis. I stayed when things became overwhelmingly difficult. I stayed even when I was blamed, belittled, and emotionally broken down. I stayed because I believed things would get better, and because I trusted that we were building a long-term future together.

When she decided to return to school, she convinced me to stay home and manage our household so she could focus entirely on pursuing her education and career. I trusted her blindly. I believed in her dreams just as much as my own. Over time, her health challenges came under control, she succeeded, and her future finally opened up.

And then, she suddenly walked away.

After a decade of my absolute support, the person who had convinced me to depend on our shared setup abruptly left, leaving me completely stranded. In a matter of weeks, the stable life I thought I had collapsed entirely.

What makes this transition even harder is that I was finally beginning to look toward my own future again. After years spent prioritizing everyone else, I had just started exploring how to rebuild my life and develop skills that could lead to stable independent employment. Just as I was beginning to look ahead, the rug was pulled out from under me.

The person who had been our primary financial anchor left me completely on the hook for rent I cannot afford alone, a vehicle that desperately needs repairs, and absolutely no safety net. I have no family nearby, very few local connections, and I am facing the immediate possibility of losing my housing while trying to recover from the intense trauma of this sudden abandonment.

The truth is, I spent so much of my life taking care of other people that I never learned how to ask for help for myself. Now, I have no choice. The hardest realization has been understanding that while I spent years trying to save someone else, I now have to save myself.

For the first time in years, I am trying to take real steps toward building a future that belongs to me. On June 12, 2026, I submitted my FAFSA application with the goal of beginning community college this fall and pursuing a degree in digital media. It is a path I am genuinely excited about, and it would allow me to build practical skills, create new opportunities, and establish a life defined by independence rather than survival or crisis. I want to work, I want to contribute, and I want to rebuild.

But right now, I am struggling just to stay afloat long enough to reach that starting line.

I cannot become homeless again. The last time I experienced housing instability, it destroyed me mentally and left me with intense trauma and PTSD that I still manage today. The thought of losing my housing now is terrifying because it would completely derail my chance to attend school this fall and become self-sufficient. I just need enough time and stability to get there.

I am not asking people to fund a dream. I am asking for enough structural stability to reach an opportunity that is already within sight.

The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward:

  • Keeping a roof over my head by covering immediate rent and essential housing expenses.

  • Repairing my vehicle so I have reliable transportation to attend interviews and maintain employment.

  • Basic necessities (utilities, groceries) during this sudden, severe transition.

  • Bridge stability to ensure I can successfully begin my digital media program this fall.

Asking for help is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have always been the provider—the son helping his mother through cancer, the partner staying through every midnight crisis. Now, I am the one who needs a hand.

I survived losing my mother. I survived the emotional fallout of a toxic ending. Now, I am fighting to keep my home and rebuild my life from the ground up. This fundraiser is not about avoiding responsibility—it is about giving me the breathing room to follow through on the concrete steps I am already taking to secure my independence.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, and for helping me find hope during one of the darkest chapters of my life.
