Noah and Sydney have lived on Maui for 10 and 8 years respectively. We both moved here for different reasons, not knowing what would be in store for us. And in moving to this magical little island, we found our home. We didn't grow up here, but this is our home.
We are so thankful that our house was not victim to the wildfires. But now, as the dust has started to settle, we've realized our livelihoods are very hazy. We're not sure of much for now. We don't know when we'll be back to work, when our town will be rebuilt, who will stay and who will move on. We love our home, and have been actively assisting our community and donating our resources in the direct aftermath. When it begins, we will be a part of the rebuilding process as well.
Noah did lose his surfboard shaping workshop and showroom. He had just signed the lease this past spring after years of hard work, and was soon to be open for business. His mission is to design and build eco-friendly surfboards that perform on the highest level. He had received high accolades for his work, and the future was looking bright.
We do not ask anyone who has been affected by the fires to donate whatsoever. But if you're able, we'd very much appreciate any donation you'd be able to give to us. Our careers revolved around Lahaina, which may not recover for years. We're both too heartbroken at the devastation of our community to do anything but stay and support our people.
If you're able to donate, it would go straight towards our bills so we can spend our time volunteering to help those in need. Anything in excess of our direct needs, we will give to those that could not raise enough for themselves or their families, and cannot buy back the things that they've lost. In a case of excess to that degree, we will donate the remainder to Maui Humane Society and Hawai'i Animal Rescue Foundation.
