We are reaching out with humble hearts to ask for support for my father, Gerald, a devoted family man in his early 50s who has spent his life working hard and caring deeply for those he loves, even while fighting a long and difficult battle with addiction.
Gerald has always taken pride in being a provider. As a skilled mechanic, he continually educated himself, earning certifications to keep up with every new type of vehicle and technology that entered the industry. He believed in doing honest work and giving his best effort every day. His work ethic wasn’t just how he made a living — it was how he showed love and responsibility to his family.
For many years, Gerald struggled with alcoholism. Despite this, he never stopped showing up for his family. He worked, he stayed present, and he loved us fiercely. Addiction is a powerful disease, and over time it began to take more than he could give. Still, he carried on, often putting others before himself while neglecting his own health and well-being.
Recently, his life changed dramatically. Gerald lost vision in one eye and is now facing the loss of vision in the other due to a severe infection he contracted while in a river. This medical crisis, combined with his addiction, led to the loss of his job and his home. In a short period of time, he lost nearly everything he had built.
In the midst of this devastation, Gerald made a courageous choice. He entered rehab and committed himself to recovery, fully acknowledging that his addiction was destroying his life. According to those overseeing his care, his progress has been strong and encouraging. He is expected to be released soon, and for the first time in a long time, there is real hope for his future.
When Gerald leaves rehab, he will be starting over with nothing. He has no home, no income, and significant medical needs, including eye surgery and continued care. As his family, we want to help him rebuild — but we cannot do it alone.
We believe in faith, grace, and second chances. We believe people are more than their past mistakes and that healing is possible when accountability meets compassion. Gerald has taken responsibility for his life and is choosing a different path forward. This is his second chance, and he deserves the opportunity to rebuild with dignity.
The funds raised will go toward medical expenses, eye surgery, continued recovery support, temporary housing, transportation, and basic living needs as he works to regain stability.
