Barbara Coleman is a 94 year old grandmother who has dedicated the last 16 years of her life to freeing her grandson from a wrongful conviction of attempted murder. Her grandson, Deville Simmons, is serving a life plus sentence for a crime he didn’t commit and he continues to maintain his innocence. There is ample evidence suggesting he was never given a fair trial. Barbara has fought tirelessly, having spent hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years, and needs our help to continue the fight.

Jackie Lacey tried and convicted Deville Simmons in 2006 despite evidence supporting his innocence. This is the same Jackie Lacey that was accused of being too tough on crime and as a result lost her position as DA in 2020 in the re-election campaign. A private investigator took on the case in recent years pro bono to help Barbara and has stated it is the most corrupt case he has seen in 23 years.
The funds will be directly used to help Barbara with all her needs toward an acquittal of her grandson. The money will fund a campaign to free Simmons and alleviate some of the financial burden she has already accrued.
A little bit about Barbara….

She’s all of our grandmother. Her whole life has been dedicated toward educating and serving the community. Originally from Kansas, she moved to LA in the 1970’s where she attended USC and also studied at the UCLA Radiation Therapy Department. In 1975 she was appointed chief technologist of the Kaiser Cancer Department. Three years later, Barbara became Director of Education of the School of Radiation Therapy at the Kaiser Foundation Cancer Department in Los Angeles. She held that position from 1978 until 1995. Even after retirement, she dedicated a lot of her time to helping people around her.
In her later years of life she’s had to deal with the pain of seeing her grandson be incarcerated but her resilience is unmatched. With your help, we can make her last wish come true, which is to embrace her grandson as a free man in her own home.
