On November, 30 2025 my mother and I returned from a trip to Oregon, visiting her Father for what may very well be her last opportunity to see him. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia in 2022. Needless to say, the return trip was full of mixed emotions. I dropped her off at home and returned to my family. 2 hours later my mother called me in a panic, her voice frantic and shaking, telling me there had been a fire in her apartment. Her animals, a dog and a cat, were still missing and the fire department was on site. I quickly drove back over to her apartment to assist in any way possible. By the time I arrived the fire had been put out and the animals rescue. But the damage was done. The fire and smoke destroyed a lot but the real damage was caused by the fire sprinklers. She has renters insurance, thank goodness, but the fire and water has destroyed her apartment. Her insurance only covered 3 nights in temporary housing. She is now paying out of pocket for lodging and food costs. And her personal loss amount barely covers a quarter of the items damaged in the fire. She really needs help to recover from this tragedy.
