Early in the week of September 9th, Rebecca and Garrett went to the hospital for the induction of their baby boy, Blake Arthur McCorkle. As labor progressed, it became necessary for Rebecca to have a C-section. However, just hours before the scheduled procedure, she suddenly became unresponsive. An emergency delivery took place, and Blake was born weighing 8 lbs 10 oz on Wednesday, September 11. Rebecca remained in critical condition, facing significant complications, including multiple blood clots and a severe stroke.
After a week filled with tragic and unimaginable events, Rebecca passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, September 18th, surrounded by her loved ones: her husband, Garrett, her mother, Pamela, and her brother, Max. Despite the heaviness and darkness of the week, there were moments of light—Rebecca consistently exceeded expectations, demonstrating her presence with us until the end. The time she spent holding Blake against her chest, with Garrett by her side, will forever be cherished and etched in the family’s hearts. Rebecca fought bravely, and her strength will live on through her boys.
As of Friday, September 20th, Blake is still in the NICU receiving treatment and showing daily improvements. While the future is uncertain, we are confident it is bright for him. However, Blake and Garrett face a long journey of healing. They are undoubtedly surrounded by countless people who will love and support them as they navigate life after this tragic event. Easing their financial burden is just one of many ways we can offer our support. Every donation, no matter the size, is a heartfelt and generous gesture during this time. Let’s continue to hold on to hope and honor Rebecca every day.
