PARKES' STORY

My name is Parkes Long. I'm a Junior at Riverwood High School. When I was 7 years old, I remember having a hard time seeing. I couldn't clearly see my friends on the playground. I'd bump into things occasionally, like furniture. I would even hold books up really close to my face in order to read. My parents noticed that I was experiencing some challenges and scheduled an appointment for me to see an optometrist. During the appointment, they took me through a series of eye tests and discovered that I was nearsighted. To help me see clearly, they ordered prescription eyeglasses. The first time I put them on I couldn’t believe how clearly I could see. It made a huge difference!

Recently, I started thinking about unhoused individuals -- especially children -- who might not have access to prescription eyeglasses or an optometrist. I remember my experience and thought about how hard it must be to walk through your day unable to see clearly. It struck me. What if people donated prescription eyeglasses that they no longer used so that someone who needed them could see clearly. So, I created a space for those who needed them most -- the I WANNA SEE Project.

WHAT WE DO!

At the I WANNA SEE Project, we are driven by the values of love, light, and sight. We strive to enhance the lives of unhoused individuals and children who want to see clearly. With a strong focus on community engagement like partnerships with faith-based organizations, eye care professionals and non-profit organizations -- we work collaboratively to:

  • Collect donated prescription eyeglasses.
  • Host free eye health screenings and distribute donated prescription eyeglasses.
  • Offer a spirit of love and care to the homeless, embodying a commitment to holistic care and well-being.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP!

  • Give $20 for 20/20 Vision. Your contribution will go to support "I WANNA SEE Optical Pop Ups" and eye health screenings for homeless individuals that do not have access to proper eye care.
  • Mail in Donated Prescription Eyeglasses and Reading Glasses. Send your donations to: I WANNA SEE Project 4780 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Suite 540-532, Atlanta, GA 30338
