Those of you who know us know our Bluey loving 5-year-old Taco who has brought so much joy into our lives. When he started missing age-related milestones, we sought answers but kept running into red tape. Four years ago, when he was 2, we finally made some headway as his pediatrician recommended speech therapy for him still lacking a complete diagnosis. After completing nine months of speech therapy, he made progress using buttons and an AAC device (tablet) to communicate; still nonverbal. Finally, 3 years after our initial suspicion began, in January of 2025 we received a complete diagnosis. Taco has the highest level of Autism, level 3, and is nonverbal. He also has severe food aversion and still will only eat baby foods. That diagnosis allowed us to finally get on a waitlist for ABA therapy which is vital for his development and chance to grow and overcome the many challenges he (and us as parents) will and currently face. We were told it would take 9 months, and we patiently waited. The 9 months became 13...which brings us to now. We finally got the call for him to begin ABA therapy. Our joy and excitement were quickly cut short when we found out how little our insurance covers and out that the cost will mostly fall on us. We desperately need to enroll him, and they are holding a spot for him but financially it is more than a squeeze. We realize that things are tight for everyone and if you can contribute, every little bit helps. We need roughly $4,000 to cover the cost for one year of his ABA therapy. There are also other things (sensory equipment, devices) and other therapies he will need. We sincerely appreciate you for taking the time to read this and we thank you for helping Taco and our family.
