Writing this feels surreal, but I am hopeful for a brighter future as I share my journey. Since 2021, my life spiraled through a series of painful events. It began with a shocking betrayal by my stepfather, who tried to manipulate me into an inappropriate relationship after giving me methamphetamines. When I turned to my mother, I was met with a restraining order, forcing me out of the house we all shared. My world became a chaos of homelessness and trauma, including being raped and contracting hepatitis C.

In Nebraska, I fell into another abusive relationship. The man who was supposed to support me became my worst nightmare, physically assaulting me multiple times. He's now behind bars, but not before leaving me with lost teeth, black eyes, and deep emotional scars. I was lost, believing life held no hope. Even my children stopped speaking to me, and my cousin's unresolved disappearance weighed heavily on my heart. I had risked my life to expose a sex trafficker, leading to more threats and fear.

My turning point arrived this past April when my ex-partner was arrested. My children, whom I hadn't heard from in years, reached out, offering their support. With their help, I embraced recovery at Sheridan Grove in Aurora, Colorado. This program was my lifeline, and I am now a proud graduate, living in a recovery home that has generously offered me a two-month scholarship. However, I face the challenge of affording my new rent of $850 a month, with all my possessions lost or stolen.

Starting anew isn't just a necessity—it's a chance for me to give back and connect with those who feel as lost as I once did. Becoming a grandmother has shown me a future worth fighting for, and I am determined to build a life where love and stability are at the forefront. My path is clearer than it's been in years, and though it's daunting, I'm committed to nurturing this new chapter with hope and purpose.
