Donate to Amber's Accessibility Fund to help Amber & Dan afford a power assist wheelchair and upgrade to a car that can transport it!
Details:
After Amber battled COVID-19 in 2020, her health began to decline in a myriad of ways. In 2021, after a number of hospital visits, she was diagnosed with adult-onset Type 1 diabetes, caused by the virus attacking her pancreas. With the help of incredible doctors and modern medicine (yay insulin pumps!), we got her diabetes under control, but began to realize that many of her symptoms, including extreme fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and heart palpitations, were still unexplained.
We now know that Amber is also a member of the Long COVID community and has multiple energy-limiting conditions alongside her diabetes, including ME/CFS and POTS. This means she is unable to participate in exertional activities, like walking and hiking, for more than a few minutes at a time without pain, complications, and long-term exhaustion. Despite this, she is still running her own successful small business and remaining fiercely independent and adventurous!
Amber has had amazing success using rented wheelchairs to attend fairs, visit museums, explore accessible hiking trails, and more without exhaustion and heart complications, but the rented chairs are not a long-term solution. We are raising funds to purchase a manual wheelchair with power assist wheels, as well as upgrade to a larger vehicle so we can take it with us on our honeymoon, future vacations, and day-to-day lives. (It would make Costco trips feasible again!)
We deeply appreciate all gifts, and if we are able to get a deal and have any additional funds, they will go directly to paying down Amber's remaining medical bills and medication costs. Thank you!!
