My name is Nina, I am 10. I love playing softball. In the last couple of years, I have learned a lot about a special girl named, Meghan Burnett, who tragically passed away in 2018. To this day I ask my mom questions about her and even at middle school, some of my teachers noticed I had her tournament shirt on and they also tell me about Meghan. She sounds like a really good person and someone I wish I had the chance to meet. I have met her dad, mom and sister and they were really nice to me.
Please read all about Meghan here: https://www.meghanburnettfoundation.org/about
Meghan's foundation has helped the Youth Softball program in Wakefield but it also funded many other things outside of softball that Meghan loved. I got to play on Burnett field for our semi-final playoff game this past fall, Meghan's flag was flying at the field and I know she played a part in us winning that day. I also had the chance to take pitching lessons at Planet Fastpitch, where Meghan spent alot of her time, it was awesome.
In the last month, the foundation was selling raffle tickets for the chance to raise money for the foundation and the winner got a signed Xander Bogaerts baseball. Well, my mom bought me some tickets and I won! I told my mom I wanted to give it back to Bob, Meghan's dad, so he could raise even more money with it. After my mom talked to Bob, we decided it was a good idea to keep the ball but I still wanted to help match the money that was raised, actually, I am really hoping to double it and give to Megan's family for the Meghan Burnett Foundation.
I would like to ask people to donate, even if it is just $1. I want to give back to the foundation that has helped so many, including me.
Thanks,
Nina
PS: My mom had to help me write all this but she covered all the bases I wanted to.
