hi everyone, I've set this fundraiser up to help me cover some of the costs for my beloved Toby's dental surgery he had very recently. if you know me personally, you know I have a veryyyy hard time asking for help unless I feel like I'm being crushed under the weight of something, and that weight right now is financial. Toby is my rock and the love of my life and many of you know I joke that I would let him bankrupt me if it meant keeping him around for just a little longer.
Toby's surgery came out to about $5,300 and I'll explain why it came out that high. He had an infection somewhere in the back of his mouth, a kind of infection he's never had before. I took him in as soon as I noticed and his primary vet and the dental specialist vet I took him to for a second opinion both informed me that he most likely had either a root abscess from a bad tooth or a tumor somewhere in his skull. Because dogs don't react well to their mouths being inspected, the only way to know what was going on was during surgery itself when he would be under anesthesia. Given his age of 15 years young, it would not have been the safest route to sedate him multiple times for scans and then the surgery itself. If there was something more serious going on that they couldn't see from an x-ray exam, he would have to have the more extensive (and expensive) CT scan done. To give him the best chance of a successful surgery, I decided given his age that I would go with the more expensive option in case he presented with something more extensive than an x-ray could pick up.
The procedure went so well and he did so good, but because I went with the specialty dental vet just in case something more serious came up, the price came out more expensive overall.
I'm only looking for support covering about half of the procedure since the economy sucks and I know everyone is struggling right now. I am so grateful I am even in a position where I was able to get him the surgery he needed and hopefully it'll be his last given his age.
