My name is Kali, and today I’m asking you to please take a moment to read Kamal’s story.
Kamal is a father from Gaza, Palestine, whose 5-year-old daughter, Sumaya, has been living with serious eye problems since the day she was born. Her condition requires specialized eye surgery outside the Gaza Strip—treatment her family has been unable to access because of the ongoing war and the severe restrictions on medical care.
This is his message:
I am Kamal from Gaza city, Palestine.
I have a daughter named Sumaya. She is 5 years old. She has suffered from corneal and retinal problems and other eye complications since the day she was born.
She needs eye surgeries outside the Gaza Strip.
From the age of one day, my daughter’s case was presented to a pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Ahmed Al-Halimi, who works at St. John Eye Hospital in Gaza.
Dr. Ahmed, aware of my daughter’s condition, said that after five years, we would determine what should be done once her eyes were fully developed.
We look at her pictures, and there is a clear lack of normal development in her eyes.
With the war continuing, I have been unable to access the eye surgery and specialized treatment she needs to complete her care.
I am asking for your help so that my daughter can have the opportunity to receive the treatment she needs.
