Lisa Eiteljorge-Foss, a beloved mother, grandmother, mate and friend, has Stage 4 renal cancer.

Lisa is a retired graphic designer living in Ely, MN, who had severe and ongoing back pain. When she got checked out, the docs spotted a compression fracture in her T6 vertebra. They also found cancer on a kidney, several of her vertebrae, and a hip.

The road she now finds herself on leads to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This was where her husband, Steve, recently beat his own Stage 4 prostate cancer.

Together — and with your help — they will take aim at this disease and banish it. Lisa is quiet, and doesn’t look for or enjoy the limelight. And her courage is the quiet kind, and deep. But we know that no one fights and beats cancer alone. And that’s where you can come in, dear friends.

Lisa and Steve are retired, living on their Social Security. Medicare doesn’t cover so many things, so we’re asking for your help so they can travel as needed to Mayo and to cover thousands of dollars in bills that will be racked up.

It takes more than a village to fight cancer. If you’re unable to contribute, please know that a “share” on whatever social media platform you find this SpotFund link goes a long way. The more people who see this, the greater the help.

We’ll also be posting updates to her condition as she moves along this path. Feel free to look in here to see her progress.

Thank you all so much for reading a bit of Lisa’s story. Thank you also for for your help, blessed souls. 🙏

And now we have a direction and a plan.

While this cancer at this stage of development and aggressiveness is considered incurable, we’re working so Lisa can live yet for years.

We met this afternoon with Lisa’s new medical oncologist (who is my current medical oncologist). Here’s what’s next:

1-2: MRI of the brain and a PET scan. These will finish all Lisa’s baseline testing, so we’ll be able to gauge changes to the cancer as treatment progresses. The brain MRI will rule out metastases there.

3: Radiation. I had three vertebrae with cancer, including one that was almost solid cancer. Radiation killed the cancer, and that’s the hope here. Lisa has mets in the T4-T9 and T12. The T6, as you know, was so weakened that it fractured. There’s also a cancerous lesion right up next to the spinal cord, though it has not invaded there yet. So radiation can kill a whole lot of it. Maybe all.

4: Oral chemo pills and IV immunotherapy infusions: These will begin after radiation. Pills twice a day, infusions every three weeks.

In just the last several days, Lisa has gone from using a cane to using a walker. As the treatments are working against the cancer, so is Lisa going to be working to get strength back. There’s no reason to think she won’t be walking normally again in a while.

That’s where we’re at. There’s no way to figure at this point what may and may not slow down this cancer.

So stay tuned, my dears. Our love to all. ♥️❤️‍🩹🌈
