Greetings everyone,

     Hoping everyone is in good health, I’ve decided to create this fundraising campaign on behalf of Dendi Sherpa. My dear friend, Dendi Sherpa, is in tremendous need of your help and generosity! Dendi is my 39 year old friend, who I have climbed with, a few times in the past. He is a solid individual and amazing friend; always kind, warm hearted and a family man. He is the backbone and only breadwinner of his family. He supports his wife, three children and elderly mother. Dendi summited Everest on May 19^th, this year and has suffered severe frostbite! He is about to lose all his fingers! Dendi and his family most definitely need our compassion and help!

I have communicated several times with Doctor Suvash Dawadi, who treated Dendi at CIWEC Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Doctor Dawadi stated, he could not treat Dendi further because the hospital did not have more of the medicine needed. Doctor Suvash Dawadi was able to treat Dendi with only one cycle of Iloprost IV infusion, and he needed four more.  Doctor Suvash Dawadi stated, they neither have the medicine anywhere in Nepal nor in the entire country of India. Doctor Suvash Dawadi additionally stated : “You are very kind in trying to help Dendi. I would like to inform you that by now there has been too much of a delay, so using the medicine may not be of any use. Dendi received the first dose of Iloprost on the 21^st of May, and now it has been more than 10 days. The medicine is supposed to be useful up to 72 hours after the frostbite occurs.” 

Furthermore, Doctor Suvash Dawadi declared: “I know you have worked hard for it, but my suggestion would be to rather get him to India for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at this point (around 12 sessions), if you would really like to help. Giving Iloprost at this moment of time, would be just raising false hopes. HBOT and avoiding injury and infection is more important for me.”

Following the Doctor’s recommendations, between a group of friends, we are arranging for Dendi to travel to Lucknow Hospital in India. This brief summary below, delineates the essence of the treatment our dear friend Dendi Sherpa needs immediately!

Treatment Summary:

1. The hospital in Lucknow specializes in HBOT. They have the latest equipment and facilities for HBOT treatment. 
2. This is a machine-driven therapy, so the availability of the right equipment, duration and frequency of treatment, is important. 
3. Lucknow hospital will be giving Dendi 2 sessions of 90 minutes each day for the first month and 1 session per day in the second month, if required. 
4. Hospital charges for HBOT are $25.00 per session. 
5. Total cost of treatment alone comprising of 90 sessions will be $2,250.00.
6. On top of that, Kathmandu to Lucknow to Kathmandu (round trip) traveling cost for Dendi and his wife, plus lodging and boarding expenses for them two, will run into another $1,750.00, approximately. 
7. Total estimated cost will be $4,000.00.

Doctors have assured us that this HBOT treatment is quite effective and will restore at least 70% to 80% movement of his fingers and palms. Your donations will help save Dendi’s hands as well as will be a huge contribution to supporting Dendi, his wife, three children and elderly mother.

     Con la esperanza de que todos gocen de buena salud, he decidido crear esta campaña de recaudación de fondos en nombre de Dendi Sherpa. ¡Mi querido amigo, Dendi Sherpa, tiene una gran necesidad de su ayuda y generosidad! Dendi es mi amigo de 39 años, con quien he escalado, varias veces en el pasado. Es un individuo sólido y un amigo increíble; siempre amable, de buen corazón y un hombre de familia. Él es la columna vertebral y el único sostén de su familia. Mantiene a su esposa, tres hijas pequeñas y una madre anciana. ¡Dendi alcanzó la cima del Everest el 19 de Mayo de este año, y ha sufrido una congelación severa! ¡Está a punto de perder todos sus dedos! ¡Dendi y su familia definitivamente necesitan nuestra ayuda y compasión!

Me he comunicado varias veces con el Doctor Suvash Dawadi, quien trató a Dendi en el Hospital CIWEC en Katmandú, Nepal. El Doctor Dawadi dijo que no podía seguir tratando a Dendi porque el hospital no tenía más medicamentos necesarios. El Doctor Suvash Dawadi pudo tratar a Dendi con solomente un ciclo de la infusión intravenosa Iloprost y necesitaba cuatro más. El DoctorSuvash Dawadi dijo que no tenían el medicamento en ningún lugar de Nepal ni de la India. El Doctor Suvash Dawadi declaró: “Eres muy amable al tratar de ayudar a Dendi. Me gustaría informarle que a estas alturas, ha habido demasiado retraso, por lo que usar el medicamento pudiese ser de ninguna utilidad. Dendi recibió la primera dosis de la infusion de Iloprost el 21 de Mayo, y ya han pasado más de 10 días. Se supone que el medicamento es útil hasta 72 horas después de que ocurre la congelación”.

Además, el Doctor Suvash Dawadi, declaró: “Sé que ha trabajado duro para lograrlo, pero mi sugerencia sería llevarlo a la India para recibir Terapia de Oxígeno Hiperbárico (TOHB) en este momento (alrededor de 12 sesiones), si realmente desea ayudar. Administrar Iloprost en este momento sería solo generar falsas esperanzas. TOHB y evitar lesiones e infecciones, es más importante para mí”.

 Siguiendo las recomendaciones del Doctor, entre unos amigos, estamos organizando el viaje de Dendi al Hospital Lucknow en India.

Resumen del Tratamiento:

1. El hospital de Lucknow está especializado en TOHB. Cuentan con equipos e instalaciones de última generación para el tratamiento de TOHB.
2. Esta es una terapia impulsada por una máquina, por lo que es importante la disponibilidad del equipo adecuado, la duración y la frecuencia del tratamiento.
3. El hospital de Lucknow le dará a Dendi 2 sesiones de 90 minutos cada día durante el primer mes y 1 sesión por día en el segundo mes, si es necesario.
4. Los gastos hospitalarios por HBOT son de $25.00 por sesión.
5. El costo total del tratamiento que solamente incluye las 90 sesiones, será de $2,250.00.
6. Además de eso, el costo de viaje de Katmandú a Lucknow a Katmandú (ida y vuelta) para Dendi y su esposa más los gastos de alojamiento y pensión de ambos, ascenderá a otros $ 1,750.00, aproximadamente.

Los médicos nos han asegurado que este tratamiento TOHB es bastante efectivo y restaurará al menos entre el 70% y el 80% del movimiento de los dedos y la palmas de las manos de Dendi.
