I want to share the story of a resilient student I've had the privilege to know this school year. As his prepares for a big move, he's facing a challenge that most of us never have to consider. The communication device he relies on daily, a lifeline for him, must be returned to the school district before he leaves. This device isn't just technology to him; it's the bridge that connects him to those around him. It's how he tells his stories, shares a laugh, and lets us know his everyday wants and needs. Without it he has no voice. It breaks my heart to see such a wonderful child facing this obstacle simply because buying a new iPad and AAC device is financially out of reach for his family right now.
His family is doing everything they can, but they're grappling with the expenses of the move, and this critical tool falls beyond their current means. This student embodies strength and positivity, always wearing a smile despite the hurdles in his path. It's this spirit that inspires me to support him on his journey.
I've started a fund to raise $800, which will cover the cost of an iPad, AAC communication app, and case so he can easily carry around his voice with him. I'm hopeful that with a bit of help, we can secure this device that means so much more than words can express. In doing so, we can ensure he continues to thrive, express himself, and build connections in his new environment in both educational and social environments both with his family and friends along the way.
